The Communities for Children Initiative is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services www.dss.gov.au. It is part of the Family and Children Activity delivered under the Family and Communities Programme.
This initiative supports early intervention and prevention approaches, with a particular emphasis on children aged birth to twelve. It recognises that families and communities all have strengths that can be built on to respond to issues and create opportunities.
The key focus is to facilitate a whole of communityapproach to support and enhance early childhood development and wellbeing. The initiative aims to deliver positive and sustainable outcomes for children and families in disadvantaged communities throughout Australia.
In the West Pilbara, $5.1 million has been allocated from 2014-2019 to West Pilbara Communities for Children.
